It is interesting to see the process behind producing a magazine like this — obviously a lot of hard work goes into generating, producing and printing a magazine, let alone collating all the content. It made me think twice about my own magazine. In the group tutorial, it was suggested to start sourcing collaborators to generate content as opposed to collating the entire content myself.

Brief 4 - The Photographers Gallery
North Design devised the following identity for The Photographers Gallery in London — it is currently the largest public gallery for Photography. They state they were inspired by the architectural frame of the building and used this as a basis of their framing mark. It has given me an idea to source inspiration for the museum identity from more abstract means, as well as looking at a literal interpretation. The identity is contemporary, coherent and is adapted well cross a range of graphic materials.

Brief 4 - Pinneberg Museum
The brand identity & print collateral for the Pinneberg Museum by Una Design was the major inspiration for selecting the museum brief (brief 4 - a proposed rebrand for Warrington Museum) due to its consistency through its brand, its use of striking colour and the accompanying iconography & brandmark.
I hope to use iconography in the form of signage and way finding within my own project so this is great contextual reference for that. The information is delivered in a clear and concise form and the overall branding and application is coherent throughout — brilliant design.

Brief 2 - Olly Moss
I can't do a brief on the topic of film and film posters without a feature on Olly Moss. Olly Moss is a graphic designer and illustrator who is renowned for his film poster designs. With commissions from Empire magazine, he currently has an extensive range of illustrations and designs encompassing multiple design styles but with any of his work, you can automatically tell it is his.
The Star Wars posters (image 2) are a particular favourite as he manages to combine the character/s and story lines in such a simple and minimal composition. His work is a great inspiration for my own — especially as I intend to create a set of magazine cover designs.

Brief 3 - Hand painted type
Hand Painted Type is a project set up by Hanif Kureshi as a collaborative practice to preserve the hand painted, typographic street paintings across India. Many of these painters are going of business to due the emergence of desktop publishing and the ability to create vinyls. With the help of the public who locate these artists, Hand Painted Type translate the designs of a street painter into a fully functioning font, providing a commission to the artist themselves.
We could use a similar concept within our own project, using hand-rendered typography from different cultures as a basis of a font — it'd be interesting to explore and definitely rewarding, plus the research we gain will be invaluable.
This particular font costs $50 and comes in 9 layers.

Brief 3 - Type Journal
Type Journal was set up by Leeds College of Art alumni, David Gasi. It is a platform to archive and collate inspirational typography works on the web, designed also for touch screen devices. The layout is intuitive and designed specifically so a user can flow through the works in chronological order — such a great resource for inspiration. We intend to devise a similar archive but with an investigation into type that reflects our own typefaces.

Brief 3 - Aperçu
A comprehensive type specimen publication by Colophon Foundry using just two spot colours (printed by Aldgate Press). The specimen explores the technical details and the concept and ideas which led to the construction of the font. The layout is clear and concise and clearly explains the origins of the font — seems like a perfect size too.
